Information Technology Kindergarten to Year 12
At Roseville information and technology skills are integrated into all aspects
of the curriculum. Teachers routinely use a multitude of technologies to
enhance the educational opportunities for their students and from Kindergarten
onwards students receive weekly lessons to develop and extend their skill on
the computer.
In the Junior School, the focus is on the integration of technology into all curriculum areas so that the student can apply her skills in classroom activities. Lessons, in small groups, cover a broad range of skills from mouse control to multimedia. All our classrooms are equipped with pods of computers and a data projector. Interactive whiteboards are also available. We use a broad range of software to support the curriculum and our students are well prepared for their entry to high school.
In the middle school years, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a compulsory subject aimed at fully developing all the skills students need to use technology to full advantage in their studies. To consolidate their technology skills, students in Years 7 - 9 undertake an independent learning project lasting several days. The projects for each year group concentrate on a different aspect of communicating ideas with the support of technology. In addition, the study of Information and Software Technology is available in Years 9 and 10 as an elective subject, concentrating on desktop publishing, video editing, multimedia, web design and robotics.
By their senior years, the girls will have a good working knowledge of how to use technology to tap into the wealth of information available to them, make sense of it and communicate their ideas to a variety of different audiences. They can pursue a more advanced understanding of technologies used in the workplace through studying Information Processes and Technology in Years 11 and 12. Through project work, students create their own information systems which meet a specified need. Areas of focus include database design and management, communications and multimedia.
To support learning with technology, Roseville has excellent ICT facilities, from state of the art network infrastructure which ensures high speed data access in all areas of the school, to a large variety of user facilities and services. There are currently three general purpose labs which are heavily used by all subject areas, two separate lab spaces in the Information Resource Centre to support research and information skills, and several subject specific labs such as for Music, Languages, and Design and Technology. Students and staff enjoy excellent technical support and access to a multitude of peripheral and audiovisual equipment and services.
