Emily Lines up for the Run of Her Life

Release Date: 15-Aug-2011 | Go Back

Roseville College Year 8 athlete, Emily Augustine, has won the 14 years 4km event at the 2011 NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships and will now compete at the School Sport Australia Championships in Canberra from 19 - 22 August.

Emily, representing Roseville College and NSW Combined Independent Schools (CIS), thought she was in the race of her life at the State Championships, however, her first place position means that race is still ahead of her...

Scheduled in one of Sydney’s wettest periods on record, the competition was relocated from traditional cross country tracks to the Eastern Creek Raceway. This, however, turned ordinarily testing conditions into a very fast and demanding road race.

“Emily ran an extraordinary race, matching the leading pack (of three runners) stride for stride over the first three kilometres,” explains Head of Sports at Roseville College, Mrs Ann Osborne. “She pulled away at the last hill to set herself up with a substantial lead as she crossed the finish line. She ran with determination and a sound race plan to a well-deserved victory.”

Roseville College students are regular members of the CIS representative teams in a range of athletic and swimming pursuits, including cross country running. The College also boasts a high participation rate in sports across the sporting spectrum.
