Together with Year 6 mentor and friend, Chloe Oates, the pair have already completed the early stages of selection for the November Games.

"Both Erin and Chloe show great sportsmanship and determination in training and at meets," says Junior Sports teacher, Mrs Jenine Blessington. "And both overcame significant disappointment and challenges to compete at such a high level in their multiclass events, she adds, acknowledging that both are pushing their personal boundaries in the pool.

Described as a "solid role model", Chloe is excited about the recent accomplishments both she and Erin achieved at the NSW PSSA Swimming Championships. Mrs Blessington says she has watched Chloe overcome setbacks over three seasons in swimming, track and field, and in cross country" by remaining diligent in her training regime and remaining committed to her end goals".

"I cannot fault Chloe's focus and resilience to disappointment," says Mrs Blessington, with admiration. "She is quite an inspirational young woman, and has become a valued friend, team mate and mentor for Erin, who is forging her own path and setting her own goals in sports; much like Chloe did."

While Roseville College is a non-selective school, the "have a go" determination that is characteristic of the College's graduates has also served students who, in sports, are classified to compete in multiclass categories.

"Multiclass events, designed to accommodate varying levels of disability in sport, give all students the opportunity to compete in meaningful and fair competition, simultaneously building their self-confidence and self-esteem," explains Mrs Blessington.

The next step towards Erin's Pan Pacific Games dream is to compete as the youngest swimmer to trial for the 10-12 yeas MC Girls 50m Backstroke at the NSW State Championships at Homebush in May. Chloe will also trial at the Championships in the MC Girls 13 years 50m Breaststroke.
