Roseville College Presents at IB Asia Pacific Conference

The annual regional event featured keynote speaker, current Chair of the Board of the Global Partnership for Education and former Australian Prime Minister Ms Julia Gillard, as well as presenters from leading Australian schools and universities.

Roseville College showcased the practical applications of its Primary Years Program (PYP) journey, which focuses on learning outcomes for girls that include international awareness and global citizenship, as well as how Roseville College inspires students to put their learning into practice with a practical "call to action".

"We shared how Roseville College embraces technology to enrich learning for our girls and how we use it to teach international mindedness and global citizenship", says Mrs Woldhuis, who adds that this is achieved through authentic learning tasks like blogging and connecting with classrooms around the world using various technologies like Skype and Edmodo.

"International mindedness helps students understand and appreciate cultures, and also teaches them how to handle themselves in a global digital world (called 'global citizenship skills') and be charitable towards others," she says.

Mrs Woldhuis was particularly encouraged by the constant stream of positive feedback she and Mrs Miller received from other delegates after their presentation, both about the purposeful nature of the blog content by students as young as 10 - 12 years, as well as the efforts and willingness of the Junior School teaching staff to put the PYP initiatives into practice in every classroom.

Despite being a true local school for families on Sydney's North Shore, Roseville College has growing international regard, demonstrated by its selection to present at conferences such as the IB APAC Conference. This highlights the school's forward thinking and expertise in innovative learning initiatives.
